Physiotherapists

clinical pilates AdelaideInitially created to help injured WWI veterans recover, Pilates has become an enduring fitness trend. Everyone from the Sydney Roosters to Instagram influencers has embraced it, draping sleek limbs over reformer beds. It’s easy to see why: the method offers a unique combination of body-sculpting, core strengthening, balance and flexibility work that’s gentle on the joints yet challenging for the muscles.

It’s also a form of exercise that can be done in a group (although it’s generally more expensive than private classes) and in the clinic or at your home. Physiotherapists have the skills to modify the exercise to suit each client’s abilities and needs, so even those with injuries can benefit from the class. Private

Designed by Joseph Pilates to help injured bedridden comrades during World War I, the reformer is a series of sliding platforms on rollers and ropes that provide varying degrees of resistance (4). The equipment is used in various positions, including lying on the back, side-lying, kneeling, and standing. Unlike other exercise equipment, the Pilates reformer eliminates the effect of gravity on the body’s joints. It makes it an ideal workout for people with arthritic or unstable joints and those recovering from injury or surgery.

Small group Reformer Clinical Pilates classes are an excellent option for those with neck and shoulder pain, recurring back pain, weak core muscles, poor posture, or knee and hip pain. They are also the best option for those who need to focus on specific areas of their bodies or want a class with more attention from their instructor.

These classes complement your Physiotherapy treatment and are suitable for anyone from beginner to advanced level! Each new client will start with a 1-hour Physiotherapy Initial Assessment before booking their first Clinical Pilates session. Reassessments are done every six months. All classes are bookable via the Mindbody App.

Reformer Pilates classes are often a great option for exercisers who need a lower-impact, lower-intensity workout that can still help them maintain or even build muscle strength. This type of workout is also a fantastic way to keep getting in shape while you are recovering from injury or are working around physical limitations.
